Validate Signed Documents with PDF Document Validator

The validator gives you the confidence and clarity you need regarding a document’s signature status and validity.

You can access the PDF Document Validator here.

What is PDF Document Validator?

PDF Document Validator is a tool that verifies whether a signed document is valid and sealed with GlobalSign. It checks details about the transaction, the certificate, and the sealing process, helping you confirm if the document was signed and sealed correctly.

GlobalSign is used as the certificate authority. As a trusted provider of digital certificates, GlobalSign ensures documents are authentic, unchanged, and protected against tampering once sealed.

How does PDF Document Validator work?

The validation process is quick and simple:

  1. Access the tool via this URL https://validatedoc.net/documentvalidator

  2. Upload the PDF document you wish to validate by clicking the "Upload Document" button

  3. The tool analyzes the document and generates a validation report

  4. If the validator flags any warnings, such as hyperlinks, review the flagged content to ensure it matches the original document. This step helps confirm the document's integrity.

You’ll be able to see if the document is properly signed and whether the certificate used to seal it remains valid and intact.

Example of a successfully validated PDF

Below is an example of a PDF document that has been successfully validated after being signed using MitID:

Invalid signature

If a signature is not valid for any reason, or was not signed with Addo Sign, you'll instead see the following message and icon:

Document Validator can also inform you about other content within the document you're validating.

Hyperlinks

If your signed document is valid but contains hyperlinks, Document Validator will notify you that even though the signature is valid, it isn't able to validate the content that the hyperlinks redirect to, as that content can be changed at any point by the content owner.

To ensure the signature's validity, compare the hyperlinks flagged by the validator with those present in the PDF. If they match, the signature remains valid, and the warning is likely due to the presence of external links rather than any modification of the signed content.

Managing Signing Links

When extending the active period of a transaction, it is important to understand how signing links behave:

  • Validity of Existing Signing Links:

    • If the transaction has not yet expired, the signing link sent to the signer’s email will remain active and functional during the extended period.

    • This ensures that signers can continue to access and complete the signing process without any interruptions.
