1. What is Name and Address Protection?
Name and address protection means that an individual has chosen to anonymize their personal information in public and private records. This includes hiding their name and address from both public registers and private entities.
If a person has enabled name and address protection, their identity information will not appear in their MitID profile. As a result, Addo Sign cannot embed this information into the final signed document.
In such cases, MitID will display generic or anonymized information instead of the signer’s real name and address.
This protection can lead to additional verification steps when interacting with private institutions (e.g. banks) or when signing contracts, as the person may be required to undergo a KYC (Know Your Customer) process.
2. How Does It Affect the Signing Process?
When a signer has name and address protection:
A grey ghost icon will appear in the Addo Sign Overview:
You will receive a message indicating that the name in the signing stamp comes from the sender's input, not from CPR data.
Although the MitID stamp remains valid and contains a unique ID tied to the signer's CPR, it may complicate the legal verification process. Retrieving identity details may require contacting MitID and requesting data release, which is subject to their discretion.
To enhance verification, you can use the CPR Validator feature. This allows you to require the signer’s CPR number during signing. Add the CPR in the optional field when setting up the transaction (if known).
3. What Can the Signer Do?
While Addo Sign respects the signer’s right to anonymity, the described limitations will always apply unless the protection is removed.
If the signer wishes to be identifiable for a particular process, they can:
Visit borger.dk to remove the protection
Contact MitID directly to update their identity settings
Please note: Even after removal via borger.dk, it may be necessary to contact MitID to ensure information is correctly updated in their system.
4. What Are the Workarounds for the Sender?
If the signer prefers to keep their protection, you can still ensure high identity assurance by setting up a new signing process using Addo Forms. This allows you to collect supporting documents and ID from the signer.
You can request the signer to upload:
Proof of address and name (issued within the last 3 months):
Utility bill
Payslip
Bank letter
Health insurance card
Photo ID:
Passport
Driver's license
A photo of the signer
Use Addo Forms to create a secure workflow for collecting these documents.
