Information is "starred out" from overview

This article explains why data is starred out in Addo Sign and outlines the three GDPR anonymization settings you can choose from.

Updated this week

If you notice data appearing as asterisks or stars in your overview, it’s due to Addo Sign’s default data anonymization, which has been in effect since 2020.

Data anonymization helps protect personal information in compliance with GDPR regulations. Unless configured otherwise, Addo Sign will automatically anonymize data after a transaction is complete.

Data Anonymization Options in Addo Sign

There are three anonymization settings available, which control how data is displayed in the overview:

Option 1: None (No Anonymization)

  • Data is not anonymized

  • All signer details are visible in the overview

  • It is your responsibility to handle personal data according to relevant privacy regulations

You’ll see full recipient information unless you delete or anonymize it manually

Option 2: Enable Data Anonymization

  • Personal data is anonymized and shown as stars in the overview

  • Data in the reference number field remains visible

  • Once anonymized, data cannot be recovered

Useful for protecting sensitive data while preserving reference tracking

Option 3: Enable Data Anonymization (Including Reference Number Field)

  • All data, including the reference number, is anonymized and displayed as stars

  • No personal details remain visible in the overview

The most secure option for organizations with strict privacy compliance needs

How to Set GDPR Compliance Settings

Only administrators can manage anonymization settings. These settings affect future transactions only - existing transactions will remain unchanged.

To configure:

  1. Go to GDPR settings in the admin panel

  2. Choose between:

    • None (no anonymization)

    • Enable anonymization

    • Enable anonymization including reference number

  3. Save your preferences
